ART IN POLAND
As the date is drawing closer the organizers for this year’s Naive Art Festival in Katowice Poland are busy as bees setting up the new exhibition which opens to the public at the SZYB WILSON Gallery on the 15th June and runs until the 18th August 2013.
It is again pulled together by the charismatic Jacques Dubois from France and his association Fivan who work tirelessly throughout the year for this major festival, all designed to promote naive art around the world and in the city of Katowice which is the main sponsor of the Festival.
TANGO PAINTINGS
Each year they have a quest country featured and this year that is Argentina and this year the artists were also given a theme to paint for if they wanted, the theme was TANGO. So it will be very interesting to see the many different artists’ interpretations of this famous Latin American dance.
AUSTRALIAN OUTBACK PAINTING
My acrylic on canvas painting called “Tango at Ayers Rock” features the Australian take on the subject, with the rock in the background the well heeled are enjoying dinner in the outback whilst watching a Tango Troupe from Latin America and also the Australian Aboriginals doing their Corroboree dance. They are of course all joined by the Australian outback animals, kangaroos, wallabies, emus, bilbies, rabbits, camels, galahs, cockatoos, dingos and koalas.
The poster this year is designed by Sema Culam from Turkey, as has won the Grand Prize of the Public in 2012. There will be more than 1000 paintings on show. So really if you are in Europe or just fancy a bit of a trip, I can assure you, you will not be disappointed. This is an amazing exhibition to lift your spirits and make you happy to be alive.
The gallery itself is the largest privately owned gallery in Poland and I would not be surprised if that is matched anywhere else in the world. The building used to be a bus factory – so you can just imagine what size it would be to do that. The outside area of this building holds a sculpture park as well with art as far as the eyes can see, and only 10 minutes to the city.
So here is some good advice for you budding artists out there;
“A fool-proof method for sculpting an elephant; first, get a huge bock of marble; then you chip away everything that doesn’t look like an elephant.”
Till next time happy painting and sculpting to you all.
