ARTISTIC INSPIRATION

It’s our wedding anniversary on Saturday, so don’t call us-we won’t be answering the phone, lol we will have other things on our minds! Here is a painting which may give you some idea, this is our actual bed, but I don’t know what all the cats are doing there! What was I thinking!

So we met when I was only 14 years old and just having emigrated from Sweden with my parents and brother.

As I have told you before I was a bit of a handful as a teenager and run away from home (for 8 months) but by the time I met Bryan I was living back with my parents briefly. I looked older than my 14 years (glad that ‘looking older’ trend did not keep going LOL) and therefore was able to get into any clubs and pubs I wanted to.

ART & MUSIC

We met at the Pooraka hotel, I can’t remember which band was playing, but all the best bands of that era played there, regulars were: AC/DC, The Angels, Sherbert, Hush, Kush, Skyhooks you get the picture –they were awesome nights. If you fancy reading about another great band and see them in an artwork in my art blog, here is the link; 25. Shake Rattle and Roll & Art & Music

I was the dancing queen (still am if I get the chance) and danced with Tom, Dick and Harry and the rest, Bryan was there in the line up too. Tall with blond curly hair, surfer looking guy (always had a soft spot for a surfer).

THE ART OF THE PICK UP

So why Bryan you ask, well I tell you he had a weird pickup style which I bet not many of you have used before. He brought his brother with him, well that may not be unusual you say, mmm…. perhaps a tad unusual when you factor in that his brother Trevor has cerebral palsy and is in a wheelchair. So Bryan and his brother sort of stood out from the crowd you might say, how many 16 year old teenagers goes out looking for chicks in that fashion?

Well it worked for me clearly- it made him stand out from the crowd and I figured that he must have the loveliest of hearts, as he looked out for his brother all night and sorted him with beers, cigarettes (yes those were the days when everybody smoked) and toilet visits, in between trying to woo me!

Funny isn’t it I still love him just the same all these years later, and every Wedding Anniversary we celebrate our good fortune to still be together when most of our friends have long ago parted company.

There was only one glitch to our wedding celebration, the 9/11 terrorist attack, which put a big dampener on our day, we wish we did not have to share our anniversary with that.

On our special day, we will give thought to the people who lost their lives on this day and the people left behind that love them still.

Here is a thought by Marcus Tullius Cicero (statesman)

“It is foolish to tear one’s hair in grief, as though sorrow would be made less by baldness.”

Till next time happy painting and sculpting to you all!

Love Marie xxx (c)

ARTIST WEBSITE

So here I am again, talking to myself lol, or maybe you, if you are out there somewhere. So my artist website is finally up and running after its initial crash and then what seemed to be an eternity whilst it was being redesigned by Powwow. And they did a very good job too I am pleased with it. Hope you all use the E cards, free of course and add your own caption to a couple of them. I have had fun thinking of captions myself, but I am sure you can think of plenty. You should find something there for every occasion. We will be changing them from time to time to, like Christmas and Valentine’s Day etc. This painting now a print and a portion of it is an E-card “The true colours of Hindley Street” is a favorite of mine.

HINDLEY STREET

I had so much fun painting this and it was bought by a psychiatrist and hangs in the waiting room, where it is very popular with the clients. In my youth Hindley Street in Adelaide, South Australia was The place to hang out, we would often “crack a Hindley” and check out what was going down, lol. You would find every type of person there, much like Kings Cross in Sydney. The establishments offered everything from fast foods, to books, gelaterias, charity shops, pasta and pizza, nightclubs, dry cleaning, as well as adult only shops and strip joints. People of every race and religion was there just to look or in the case of The Salvation Army and The Hare Krishna’s, there to convert some wayward souls. Don’t know if it did them any good but it certainly was interesting.

So what a fantastic place for an artist to get inspired to paint a picture, there has been many reincarnations over the years and different shops have come and gone, but basically the feel of the street has remained the same.

If you are not familiar with the twisties packets in the pockets of the raincoat brigade, you may have to listen to the lyrics of Skyhooks’ Living in the Seventies Album’. Lol, they were a major influence on me and a band I still love. Mmm…Talking bands, AC/DC you ROCK!!

ARTnBED – ARTWORKS ON YOUR BED

There has actually been a very interesting development in this story as this painting Hindley Street has this year 2012 been made into quilt covers or duvet by ARTnBED. So if you are interested in having art not only on your wall but also on the bed here is a couple of links for you to check out ArtNBed website and also my blog on the subject 140 ART n BED as well as the page ARTnBED. Look out for more of my artworks, as the bedding range will be added too soon.

Here is another saying that amuses me…

God may have created man before woman but there is always a rough draft before the masterpiece.

Till next time happy painting and sculpting to you too!

Much Love
