ABOUT THE AUTHOR & ILLUSTRATOR
JAN GAEBLER SMITH, AUTHOR
Jan has a degree in journalism and creative writing from the University of Hawaii and has been a journalist, a corporate librarian, information management consultant, bookshop owner, and university lecturer, throughout her career. She was born in Portland, Oregon, to an Australian mother and American Father and travelled widely throughout her childhood with her father’s medical career. She moved to Australia when her parents retired here and has lived in Adelaide since then, where she has raised a family and now enjoys her grandchildren.
MARIE JONSSON-HARRISON, ILLUSTRATOR
Marie has a combined career of accomplished artist and international photographic model, including being a former SA and Australian Model of the Year. She has several public sculpture commissions, the largest one the ‘Federation Gateway’ spanning 44 metres across the entrance to the mid-north town of Balaklava. She is the current artist for Danish chocolatier SV Michelsen’s limited edition chocolate tin, with the first tin always presented to the Queen of Denmark. Her bright and colourful naïve art, in painted canvas and ceramic mosaic is featured in exhibitions throughout the world, including Japan, USA and Europe. Her designs have also been successfully transferred to other uses, such as quilts and pillows. Winston Knows represents her debut as a children’s book illustrator. Marie was born in Sweden and has called Australia home since a teenager.
